How To Make Iced Coffee

By Mike Chronos

Once the weather heats up, the drinks cool down. Still, many people want to enjoy their coffee, despite the hot weather. Thus, it makes sense to make a seasonal switch to iced coffee. You will find that iced coffee can be a refreshing beverage on a warm day.

To make the perfect iced coffee, begin by brewing your coffee hot. Always use fresh coffee beans and wait to grind them until just before use. Brew the coffee stronger than usual because once ice is added, the coffee will become diluted. Strength of the coffee is affected by the amount of ground coffee brewed per cup of water. If you wish to add sugar or powdered creamer, do so while the coffee is hot. One will find that the granules of these products will be more easily dissolved in the hot liquid, before the coffee cools down. Following this, one should pour the coffee into a coffee carafe. Allow coffee to cool down to room temperature, this takes about an hour. Next, transfer the coffee in the carafe to the refrigerator and allow two hours for the coffee to become completely chilled. Then, fill a glass with ice and pour chilled coffee over the top. This would be the time to add milk or cream in liquid form, as desired. Mix the contents well and enjoy.

Another hot brewed method is to prepare a blended iced coffee. To do this, add crushed ice to a blender, top with one cup of coffee that has been freshly brewed and cup of milk. Mix contents in blender until large pieces of ice are blended thoroughly. At this time, add a few tablespoons of sugar to taste. Or, if you would rather, add flavoring syrups or flavored creamers. Continue blending ingredients.

Cold brewed iced coffee is another method of preparation. Iced coffee prepared in this way should have 67% less acidity than coffee brewed hot. This brewing method involves a pound of coarsely ground coffee. People generally prefer the taste of a full bodied, darker roast when using this method. Pour nine cups of cold water into a pitcher. Let this steep for a minimum of twelve hours in a cool. Separate coffee grounds and water by scooping them from the top or by putting a coffee filter inside a sieve and pouring the fluid through. The remaining liquid is a concentrated coffee. Pour a mixture of one part coffee concentrate into a glass and three parts cold milk or water. Add sugar or flavoring of choice.

Now your ice coffee is prepared, and it can be flavored any way. Besides the sugar and cream, an assortment of flavored syrups can be mixed into the coffee. For people who prefer their coffee black, taste different coffee bean varieties to mix it up once in awhile.
