Anyone who drinks more than 2 cups of coffee each day might be increasing their risk of developing osteoporosis. Research conducted with almost 1,000 women showed that heavy coffee drinking can stop the body from absorbing some necessary vitamins and minerals from the diet. This can cause the body to get osteoporosis, which is a large reduction of bone density that is usually linked to elderly patients. Yet, some heavy coffee drinkers have been found to have decreasing bone density. However, there could be other things in a person's life that could attribute to the early onset of osteoporosis. These things include smoking, drinking alcohol and using hormones. At first you may feel as though you can lose weight drinking a couple cups every day. It's not fat you are losing though it's really water because of the diuretic effect that coffee often has. Caffeine increases hormones that increase your risk for hypoglycemia otherwisse known as low blood sugar levels. The reality is that your appetite will increase makind you feel hungry more often.

In women patients who drink coffee, studies have shown that drinking too much coffee can lead to iron deficiency and anemia. Too much coffee prevents the body from effectively absorbing iron. Our bodies need healthy levels of iron for many reasons. Not only does iron help to carry oxygen to the body and the lungs, but it's also an integral part of many enzyme reactions. Iron is a key ingredient for keeping infections from running rampant in the body. Iron deficiencies make it very hard for the body to function as it should. A prolonged iron deficiency can lead to constant fatigue and/or anemia.

Don't get so caught up in the positive health benefits of drinking coffee that you forget to pay attention to the potential downside. Limit your exposure to risk by consuming coffee in moderation. If you enjoy in moderation you can enjoy all the potential benefits while eliminating many of the risks.
