A Great Pudding: Apple Crumble

By Dave Brown

I love food and I like preparing and taking time to get recipes perfect. I have created a website dedicated to my favourite pudding. Apple crumble. I find the perfect time for a bit of crumble is on one of those cold winter afternoons when you have been for a long walk in crisp cold weather and when you get home you can smell the roast dinner cooking and you just know that apple crumble is going to be next on the menu.

My biggest concern when it comes to pudding is whether to have ice cream or custard. My mum uses 'Birds' custard, which is a classic recipe, and one I have grown up with but my new favourite is the ambrosia cream custard.

Now did you know that apple crumble was first created back in the Second World War? It was used as strict rationing was brought in. The normal ingredients used in a pie weren't available; these included flour sugar and fat! So people used a simple mixture of margarine, sugar and flour.

Anyway, back to the food I love. There are many different type of crumble out there. Raspberry and Pear crumble, Rhubarb crumble to mention just a couple. There is always the issue of what to have with them and how to make them taste a little different.

I find that vanilla ice cream is perfect with Rhubarb crumble but the crumble has to be hot. If you let it cool too much you won't get the lovely melted ice cream mixed in with the rhubarb. I must figure out why you get that film on your teeth after eating rhubarb!

So, that's the story of apple crumble. I hope you have learnt something new - who would have thought desserts could be so interesting. If you would like to view a delicious apple crumble recipe follow the link below.
