For those who don't know, Champagne is a region near Reims, France, where the noble drink is been produced. Here, several hundreds of years ago, the Benedictine monk, Dom Perignon had an important role in the development of the sparkling wine. Today, Dom Perignon is one of the most best-known houses of champagne and it became renowned only after the First World War when Moet and Chandon launched it on the market as a newborn vintage champagne. Moet was among the first suppliers for the aristocrats. It supplied champagne for Queen Elizabeth II and Napoleon I.

Another big champagne brand is Bollinger, known for its Blanc de noirs vintage wine. The brand became famed after the campaign set by a lady named Lilly Bollinger. Her mission was to make this champagne brand known everywhere.

Krug is a renowned champagne brand placed alongside Dom Perignon among the crown jewels with their exquisite Grande Cuvee. It has a very recognizable taste because it's made with a complete barrel fermentation and it's a sec wine.

The most expensive champagne in the world was a Piper-Heidsieck. Every morning Marilyn Monroe would drink a glass of this particular champagne house. The Shipwrecked 1907 Heidsieck sold at $275,000 per bottle became the most expensive champagne.

Perrier-Jouet is the oldest champagne ever opened (vintage 1825). They tasted and opened it two years ago, back in 2009. This famous house totals a production of 3 million bottles annually. The production is just a bit smaller from the 3.2 million bottles per year produced by Louis Roederer, which is another big champagne brand known for its production of non-vintage blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in 2:1 proportion.

Among other great brands from the region of Champagne are Henriot, Gosset, Pol Roger, Duval Leroy, Taittinger. Still, today champagne is produced in different parts of the world too, but they don't call it champagne because it's patented, and yet it's the same method of obtaining it. In Italy we have the famous Prosecco and it's become notable as the essential ingredient in the Bellini cocktail.

The tradition of Champagne houses remains in France and having the opportunity to drink one of the most expensive champagne is a favor many people would crave for it.
