While it is common knowledge that the stimulant characteristic of coffee can help some people to be awake, there are other health risks that could come about from drinking a lot of coffee. Research has told us that that some of the side effects of drinking coffee in moderation may be beneficial. Cirrhosis occurs in people suffering from chronic liver disease and is when the normally healthy liver tissue begins to be replaced by fibrosis and nodules. You're liver becomes unable to do it's job and stops functioning. Many people will benefit from the anti-fibrotic qualities in coffee. Caffeine has also proved to lower the risk of liver cancer.

If you want to lose weight you might want to consider cutting out caffeine and yes, that morning cup of coffee. Caffeine is proven to increase the risk of long term weight gain. In the short term it might seem as though you can lose a little weight by drinking a couple of cups of coffee each day. The reason for this is that coffee has a bit of a diuretic effect that helps you lose fluid not fat. The increased stress hormones that increase your risk of low blood sugar levels are a result of caffeine consumption. This hormone actually stmulates your appetite and makes you feel hungry before you should.

Don't get so caught up in the positive health benefits of drinking coffee that you forget to pay attention to the potential downside. To play it safe, it's best to drink coffee in moderation. If you enjoy in moderation you can enjoy all the potential benefits while eliminating many of the risks.
