Drinking Coffee Can Have These Three Effects On Your Health

By Ray Marsh

Many studies have been conducted about the health benefits drinking coffee provides. Most people are aware that drinking coffee late at night can keep them awake and affect their quality of sleep.

Around the world, the stimulant effect of coffee is well known. It can help make them feel more alert and more awake. It is widely used after a restless nights' sleep. In some people, coffee has a negative side effect that results in overstimulating the nervous system. Common signs of over stimulation include signs of irritability and anxiety. An overstimulated nervous system can decrease that person's ability to resist stress, making the anxiety symptoms even worse. To further complicate things, the adrenal glands may become exhausted with constant over stimulation over a lengthy period of time.

People all over the world understand the stimulant effect drinking coffee can have. People drink coffee to make them feel more alert, focused, and awake. It is widely used after a restless nights' sleep. The downside is that some people are easily overstimulated by drinking coffee. This often leads to symptoms of irritation or anxiety. Over stimulation can inhibit your ability to deal with stress which makes the symptoms of anxiety even worse. The adrenal glands can become exhausted by consistent over stimulation over a period of time. Another side effect of consuming large amounts of coffee is an increase in LDL (low-density lipoproteins) in your body. Increased LDL levels are commonly associated with high blood pressure which is a primary contributor to cardiovascular disease. In patients with high cholesterol, the incidence of heart attack, stroke and vascular disease is greatly increased. The elements in coffee that lead to high blood pressure can be eliminated by brewing coffee with a paper filter according to research. The paper filters have a property that binds the more harmful compounds like cafestol and kahweol, which are only present within coffee beans. The end result is that it is safer to make coffee with a paper filter than it is to use a plunger for brewing or a pressing pot.

At the other end of the spectrum, some people develop low blood sugar or hypoglycemia as a result. The symptoms are unpleasant and my include sweating, clammy skin, weakness, and heart palpitations. It's strongly advised that people already diagnosed with diabetes avoid coffee altogether.

Losing weight can be more difficult with the consumption of caffeine. Caffeine is proven to increase the risk of long term weight gain. If you are like most you will probably seem like your short term weight goals are being met with that extra cup of coffee in the morning. This happens as a result of the diuretic effect of coffee, you'll initially lose water weight but not fat. Caffeine increases stress hormones within your body that increase the risk of hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar levels. This actually stimulates your appetite, making you feel hungrier.

It also won't help if you take cream and sugar in your coffee, as you'll be consuming extra sugar. Drinking coffee really can be good for your health according to research. However, the same research also proves that drinking more than 3 cups of coffee per day may begin to increase the negative health risks that could arise. Be sure to limit the amount of coffee you drink to no more than 2 or 3 cups each day. Doing that allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds - the health benefits of drinking coffee without the risks involved in drinking too much coffee.
