By Paige Thompson

Do you eat tomatoes at all? You surely know that tomatoes are now easily eaten around the globe. Tomatoes can now be found anywhere.

Some consider tomatoes as a very powerful source of nutrition because of its high vitamin and mineral content.

Tomatoes have been first cultivated in Peru, and then brought to Mexico. Today, tomatoes are available anywhere. Usually, the tomatoes in American grocery shops are picked unripe and then ripened in storage using ethylene.

Which one is better, unripe or ripe?

Ethylene is a plant hormone produced by fruits and it acts as a cue to start the ripening process, and tomatoes ripened in storage with it will stay longer but won't have as good a flavour as the tomatoes ripened on the plant. They may be recognized by their colour, which is more pink or orange than the ripe tomato's deep red.

Ripe tomatoes contain more vitamin A than unripe ones. But the unripe tomatoes have more protein.

Eating tomatoes everyday can help prevent cancer by up to 50%. Tomatoes can protect you against heart attack and different types of cancer.

So why are tomatoes healthy?

Tomatoes have different types of ingredients. Well here are some of them.
