By Nicholas Lancaster

Being the most popular alcoholic beverage in existence, beer is everywhere. Indeed, it is so easy to find that too many people drink irresponsibly.

Drink small quantities. If you feel you should be drinking more than what is socially allowed, you might want to consider the possibility of alcoholism. The best way to avoid addiction is to drink minimal quantities and know when to stop.

Drinking beer at home is best. The best way to drink beer responsibly is to simply drink it at home. That way you eliminate the possibility of driving drunk or of arguing with someone you run into.

Never drive after you drink. If you have consumed beer, it is best not to drive. It is against the law and it is dangerous. You can always walk or ask someone for a ride where you need to go.

If you have been drinking anywhere away from home, you should immediately give your keys to a friend and either order a taxi or ask someone for a ride. If you need a ride home, you can call a friend, family member of even a taxi. Anytime that you are under the influence of alcohol, it is pertinent that you not attempt to operate an automobile. It creates a dangerous situation for you and for other people on the road.

Guard your drink when you are out. Especially if you are in a restaurant or a bar, you must be extra cautious. If you leave your drink unattended, someone can drop anything in it. And if you have to leave it to use the bathroom, it is best to order a new beer upon your return. If you walk around, bring the drink with you.

In the United States, an individual must be 21 years of age to purchase and/or legally consume beer. You will be asked to show a form of picture ID before you can buy alcohol. This can be in the form of a driver's license or other similar form of identification, which features a photo and birth date of the customer. Some US retailers do not allow the sale of alcohol before 12 pm on Sunday.

If you, or someone that you know, is believed to have a drinking problem, consult a local treatment center for diagnosis and therapy to help overcome the illness. Alcoholism is a disease that often requires professional medical care, which is why proper treatment is critical to its cure.
