Healthy, Easy Crock Pot Recipes

Cooking in a crock pot is one way to make family meals easier. With a little ingenuity and creativity you can prepare meals that will save you time as well as offer nutritious value. Just plug it in when you leave for work and it's ready by the time you are home.

A family classic is The American Pot Roast consisting of a roast, potatoes, onions and carrots, a well-balanced and delicious meal when slow-cooked. Simply peel and wash the potatoes onions and carrots and place in the bottom of the crock pot, then set the roast on top and fill halfway with water and set the pot to cook on low.

For a tastier version, add a can of cream of mushroom soup, which becomes wonderful gravy. Use any leftovers for a stroganoff, roast beef sandwiches or as a stew base.

Crock pots are also great for cooking fajitas. Chop up the desired meat, chicken or beef, add in some tomatoes peppers, and onions. Put everything in the pot, sprinkle with taco seasoning and cook on low. When you return home from work all you need to do is serve with tortillas or over nacho chips sprinkled with cheese.

This is one dish that can be eaten in numerous ways. Leftovers can be used later for vegetable salad or even as rice toppings for a heavier meal.

Ham with beans is a great crock pot meal. You can use ham hocks, or a whole boneless ham product for this dish. By adding potatoes and carrots, you create a very flavorful and well-balanced meal. Just add some cornbread or corn muffins for a filling meal.

You can easily make chilli in a crock pot by simply adding some browned meat along with onions, peppers, tomatoes, kidney and pinto beans. Top it off with chilli seasoning and come home to a mouth watering aroma wafting out of the kitchen.

As you can see, the possibilities are endless. You can put everything in the crock pot the night before so all you'll need to do is plug it in before you go to work. This is a great method to prepare healthy and well-balanced meals for your family.
