One of the hardest things to master in cooking is learning how to bake. Baking requires time, patience, and practice. Try using these tips to help you either learn how to bake, or make yourself a better baker. If you stick to these tips and practice them, you should be able to bake breads, cakes, and pastries with ease.

Looking for an easy way to add color to your dinner table? If you want to add color to your dinner table, try using bell peppers. Bell peppers can be used as a dip bowls to add color to you table. You can also slice up the bell peppers and add them to your meals to create a colorful meal.

Save your carrot peelings, the ends of onions, Parmesan rinds, and celery leaves in a container in your freezer. The next time you roast a turkey, a chicken, or bone-in beef, place the bones or carcass into a stock pot with your frozen veggie parts and cover with enough water to cover it all. Let this simmer as long as you can stand it (up to 8 hours) for a rich, flavorful stock that you can use in recipes or as a base for soup.

Use your microwave to melt chocolate instead of slaving over a double boiler. Just be sure to stir it often to prevent hot spots or scalding, and do not nuke it for more than 30 seconds at a time. You can use your melted chocolate for frosting, candy coatings, and drizzling over fruits or brownies.

If you are going to be trying to get the jello salad out of the mold all you have to do is dip the mold in some warm water for 30 seconds. Loosen the edges of the mold with a knife and lightly flip it over onto a plate and voila!

You should always use a sharp knife. Contrary to popular belief, using sharp knives is far safer than using dull ones. Because more force is needed to cut with a dull knife, users are much more likely to lose control of it, and that can cause accidental cuts. Sharp knives are also more efficient and faster to work with.

Use leftover meats for sandwiches. Turkey, slow-roasted beef, braised pork shoulder roast and even chicken make great sandwich meat that can be used for meals throughout the week. You may even want to cook just for having lunch-meat that is far tastier than the kind you buy in the stores on hand.

To enjoy delicious baked potatoes when you walk in the door from work, cook them in your slow cooker all day. Wrap washed and dried potatoes in aluminum foil with salt, pepper, butter, onion or other seasonings and place the wrapped potatoes in the slow cooker on low for six to eight hours. Place a variety of toppings on the table for a make-your-own meal that's ready in no time.

When creaming butter and sugar for cookies, make sure that your butter is softened, but not melted. If it is melted, pop the bowl into the freezer for a few minutes to harden it a bit, or refrigerate the dough after mixing the ingredients. Cooler dough will prevent your cookies from spreading too much.

Invest in good cutting utensils to use in the kitchen. Not only will you save time by not having to mess with dull knives, but it is also much safer to use a sharp utensil than a dull one! More accidents and cuts happen due to dull utensils than properly sharpened ones.
