What Food with What Wine

By Harvey Powers

From red wine to white, you are going to find that each of the options you have will be perfectly paired with a variety of different foods that can be served. As you learn about these different wines, you might want to consider finding white or red to compliment the meals you are planning in advance as well, since this can be the easiest route to go for the best selection of foods.

To begin this process, it is essential that we blast away the myths about red wine as well as white wine. The old saying, red meat with red and white meat with white wine isn't actually a factual statement. In fact, you are going to find that approach can give you mediocre results in some cases. The truth of the matter is that each food you eat should have a unique flavour and neither should over power the other food. That way, it is pleasing on your tongue.

When you are considering buying red wine online, look at it from this standpoint, sweet wines are used for desserts, bitter wines mix with bitter meats and acidic foods are best with acidic wines. So say you need to add bitterness to a steak or a roast. You are going to want to look at Merlot, Red Zinfandel and even Cabernet Sauvignon.

Those looking to add a little acid to their dinner will want to consider a white Bordeaux or even a Riesling. Another choice you will have if you are a red wine drinker will be Pinot Noir or even a Red Burgundy. These acidic wines will be perfectly blended in the following manner. Acidic whites are perfect with subtle flavoured seafood, while the acidic red wine will work best with grilled seafood and tomato pasta dishes.

Now, when dessert rolls out, you might want to keep the delicious variety of options coming out of the kitchen and a dessert wine will be essential for you to enjoy. When you are looking for red for dessert that can be a complimentary sweet wine, you will want to look at Port, Sherry or even Vermouth. If however, you are looking for a sweet white, then you might consider a Vouvray, Chenin Blanc or even a delicious Asti Spumante. The choices are going to be up to you and it will be important that you consider all the factors that will come into play when you are creating the perfect menu.

When you are cooking, you are going to want to keep these basics in mind as well. The reason is that when you cook with wine, the same elements hold true and they will have an overall bearing on the final flavours that are out there. Keep all this in mind when you are looking at buying wine online and then come up with the perfect menu that is going to leave a lasting impression with all of your guests.
