There have been many custom cutting board advances in the past making new choices able to be made. Safety needs should be heeded in use and cleanup so that the possibility of poisoning food does not become a problem. Germs like to breed on these if not cleaned properly.

Bamboo has become a popular type since it is so durable and long lasting. A variety of patterns can be used with ones made from wood. They remain the most knives friendly and many people enjoy the sound of actual chopping.

Plastic is now also used as a choice and most are very affordable. These will be found in most stores and in a variety of colors in desired. Whether it is flexible or hard is only a small part of the options with these. Ones that are flexible seem to be liked for the way food could be transferred from one place to another. Their harder counterparts are very durable and yet be used as a trivet if needed.

With tempered glass these are often in a multitude of designs. Being heavy and the easy to clean they are classed the most sanitary. They can protect counter tops from the heat of heated pots. Knives will be dulled at a faster rate with them, and can also become slick with wet.

Composite types combine natural materials with synthetics. These can give the best of both kinds. They are much more gentle on knives and yet durable enough to be put in the dishwasher for cleanup.

How many of these do homes actually need that is up to the people using them. It is nice to have a couple small ones and a larger board. They could be designated for particular types of food, like one custom cutting board for fruits and vegetables and another for breads, and of course one for meats.
