Margaret River Accommodation - Watch The Amazing Surf.

By Karl Jennings

For many visitors to the South West area of West Australia it is tricky to choose where to choose your Margaret River accommodation as the South West appears both enormous and spread over an huge area including many towns and hamlets not to mention the assorted superb galvanizing beaches the area is free-flowing with. Small towns like Dunsborough, Yallingyup, Augusta and Margaret Brook itself are there to make a choice between. So where should you start and what's a good central point to base yourself?

Well many new vacation makers will not of heard about Caves Road until they are perhaps in the South West itself or planning their trip, but Caves Road stretches some 100km from north to south up and back down the shore. Beginning from before Dunsborough, winding its merry way all the way to Augusta, where the Indian Sea meets the almighty Southern Sea. You would be brave to try and drive the whole 100km in twenty-four hours and if you did you'd be sure to miss many hid jewels tucked in heaps of the side roads.

Caves Road is abundant with history for it was a relatively short time ago that the first settlers would make their way down old scrub tracks in the hope of finding suitable farming land to begin their new lifestyle. Migrants from the UK some 80 years ago would commonly head for country pastures in the hope of building a new fruitful land of opportunity. And so began the rich catalogue of history which for many years was predominantly a farming diary lifestyle, managing their cattle trying to make ends meet. Fast track to the early 70's and generations of farmers began to think about changing their lifestyle from diary farming to viticulture and trying their hand at cultivating grapes.

Vasse Felix winery was said to be one of the very first wineries to become established and now today the list is as long as the options for accommodation. If you are to truly to see the beauty of the south west then Caves Road is an absolute must on your itinery. Your whole day can easily be spent popping in from winery to winery tasting the most amazing vintages in the southern hemisphere. Quality deep rich Cab Sav's, or find your favourite Shiraz. Throw into the day a long extended lunch at one of the top winery restaurants that WA has to offer and you'll struggle to leave before the gates close at 5pm!

With over 100km's to explore it's clever to be based in an area which gives you much opportunity and choice for exploring. Prevelly is most actually the top choice.. Simply a short drive to Caves Road itself and yet providing some fantastic beaches and sunsets as your reward at the day's end. Choose your Margaret Stream accommodation smartly so that no drive becomes too long or too late in the day. It is just a short hop into town and you have the good selection of 20 top wineries almost on your step.

With the quality and growth of the winery trade in the South West, leave lots of time to explore. Many have fallen into the mistake of thinking that it can all be done in a day .. Do not do yourself such an injustice in rushing the fantastic opportunity you've got to explore the golden triangle as one says. It'll actually be worth the additional day or 2 to relish in such life long memories.
