Information about the Very Popular Philly Cheese Steak Las Vegas

By Diana Moore

A Philly cheese steak Las Vegas is not really a steak at all - it is a sandwich made with chipped meat, steak that has been frozen and chopped up really thin and grilled on a grill top. The Philly cheese steak is truly one of the most pleasing and beloved foods offered not only in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but also in other states such as Vegas. Locals think in terms of steak sandwiches with or without cheese. Without cheese, the sandwich is called a steak. Cheez Whiz is the topping of choice for serious steak connoisseurs. However, you may also use provolone cheese.

According to Philadelphians, you just cannot make a genuine Philadelphia Cheese Steak sandwich without an authentic Philadelphia roll. The rolls should be long and thin, not fluffy or soft, but also not too hard. They also claim that if you are more than one hour from South Philly, you cannot make a classic sandwich. During the 1930s in the Italian immigrant section of South Philadelphia, brothers Harry Olivieri (1916-2006) and Pat Olivieri sold hotdogs and sandwiches.

Tired of sausages, Pat recommended Harry to go to a store and buy some beef. Harry brought it back, sliced it up and barbequed it with some red onions. The brothers piled the meat on rolls and were about to dig in when a cab driver arrived for lunch, smelled the meat and onions and demanded one of the sandwiches. Pat never got a bite because the cab driver drove by, smelled the sandwich, and asked how much? He didn't know what to charge, so he billed a nickel. The cab driver supposedly said, "Hey . . . forget about those sausages, you must sell these". It was not until 20 years later that cheese was added to the sandwich by a longtime employee, Joe Lorenzo, who was tired of the usual sandwich and added some cheese.

There are a number of things you need to think about in your search for the perfect cheese steak. First, there's the cheese steak itself. As already noted, a proper Philly cheese steak is made from real beef. It is cooked on a grill using oil. As it is cooked, it should be cut to bits. You may then choose which cheese you prefer and whether you want onions, red and green peppers or other toppings to go with the sandwich. When the sandwich is served the juices should drip from your cheese steak. To avoid ruining their clothes, Philadelphians have learned, what is known as, the "Philadelphia Lean", bending forward to eat the cheese steak, instead of bringing it to your mouth.

The ideal Philly cheese steak Las Vegas shop has ample seating for the clients. You will find older folks eating right next to teenagers and tourists. The most popular shops are open late into the night. Eating the best cheese steak at midnight is a Philly tradition. Many of the more famous shops have signed celebrity photos decorating their establishments.
