Making A Dutch Oven

By Jason Kingston

Passionate about food? A cooking enthusiast? Do you want to enrich the kitchen collection with something really cool that probably your ancestors used? Have you ever heard of Dutch ovens? These cast iron beauties originate from Netherlands, and are old (that we know) about four hundred years. They can be used in the kitchen, but are also great to have while camping. This lovely combination of their history and cooking outside will give you a pleasure of eating you haven't experienced before.

Are you worried about not eating healthy? Do you use aluminum or a Teflon frying pan? If you have any health concerns, maybe it's best to stop, and to think about some new options. A Dutch oven will be a great accessory in your kitchen cookware, and preparation of food in a Dutch oven is healthy. It can stand high temperatures very well, and won't react like aluminum or some other cheap metal in releasing many harmful emissions.

If you love camping, then you must know that there are a few things in your equipment which are a must. You must have a tent, a good back pack, some basic knowledge about camp fires, orientation and cooking in the nature. Have you thought about adding anther must to the camping experience? A Dutch oven will make a great camping partner and it can be used for a bunch of camping recipes (bread, bakery stuff, beans, meat, stews, soups), and it can also be acquired at a good price. You know what you have to do before your next camping trip, don't you?

Porcelain enamel, or just enamel, signifies a material which is made when powdered glass is fused to a substrate usually on really high temperatures (750 and 850 ∞C (1380 and 1560 ∞F). It is used to coat metal, glass or ceramic, and it is usually used for art and cookware (although cooking is also an art for some people). One of the things in the kitchen enamel is also used for are Dutch ovens. Dutch ovens are ovens with thick walls, usually made of cast iron, suitable for inside and outside cooking, and resistible to high temperatures.

Not everyone can afford to buy high quality dishes made of materials which are healthy to use, and it's a shame that many people with kids cook their food in really poorly made dishes. This is not the case with Dutch ovens, as they can be found at a great price, and preparing food in them is healthy. Of course, if you prepare something unhealthy to begin with, the Dutch oven cannot fix it. Cast iron dishes pose no danger to our health.
