There is always something new in cooking that you can learn, even if it's just a nice family meal you want to prepare. Utilize other types of timers in separate sections of the house. Using the alarm on your watch will help make sure that you hear it go off, and prevent from overcooking your food.

Set a timer on your watch or cellphone in addition to the oven. Then you will know when the time is up even if you are not in the kitchen.

Your family may seem to be less than amused by the repetitiveness of corn as a side dish. You can add some coconut flakes and make a Thai inspired side dish that everyone is sure to enjoy.

Using a baked potato instead of a small one can help you to have nice thick skins to use to make twice baked potatoes. Red potatoes have thin skins and cannot support a dense filling.

If you are working with foods that have strong odors, such as fish, garlic or onions, remove the smell from your hands by rubbing them on something that is stainless steel, prior to washing them. It does not matter if you use a spoon, a side of your stainless-steel sink, or a "soap bar" made of stainless-steel; rubbing your hand on it neutralizes the undesirable smell and freshens your hands.

Layer salads properly when you are preparing a salad in advance. Place juicy ingredients and the bottom and place the lettuce at the top.

Always buy your meat and fish on the bone. Place raw or cooked bones in a strong Ziploc bag and freeze them for later use.

Rub your hands on stainless steel prior to washing them to eliminate odors of onions, garlic, fish and other strong ingredients. You can do this on the side of a sink or use a stainless steel soap bar and it will lift the odors from your hands, leaving them fresh.

To make potato skins or twice baked potatoes, use baking potatoes for a firm shell. Red potatoes don't have the skin thickness for high-density fillings.

To make your French fries crispier, let the raw potatoes soak for about half an hour in cold water prior to frying. Soaking the sliced potatoes in cold water strengthens the potato fibers so they will not break down so much when you fry them in the hot oil.

Make sure to implement the given tips if you would like to see improvement in your cooking. Fortunately, this article is packed with advice and tips that could truly become your recipe for success. If you remember these guidelines, you can create standout dishes for yourself and your loved ones.
