A Healthy Plate for Dinner Made Easy

When you want to make a healthy dinner for your family, feeding them at home is a better way than taking them to a restaurant. Although, suppertime can be difficult for some families. Some families have confessed to eating out four or more times per week because they simply don't have time. Kids are in more sports these day, parents are working longer hours, homework is getting out of control, and families are out of time to make dinner and eat together. The benefits of eating at home together however, cannot be ignored. Kids are less likely to do drugs, more likely to be healthier, and families are closer when they eat a home cooked meal together, at home.

So, how can you make sure to get dinner on the table every night so your family is eating a healthy meal? A healthy plate for kids is only a few steps away. Here are my tips:

Take out your slow cooker. This appliance has solved the dinner crisis on many occasions for us. If we are working all day, or just running errands, having a meal ready when we get home in the slow cooker is the best way to avoid stopping for fast food.

Create a menu plan. Whether you plan out breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or just dinner, having a plan helps to get a meal on the table in minutes.

Get things ready in the morning, so it can be assembled in the evening. Whether you thaw some meat, or chop some vegetables, getting the tedious tasks out of the way can make it possible to get dinner ready on time.

Enlist the kids help! Your children should be learning cooking skills anyway! If you enlist their help in either planning or preparing, in the LONG run, it will be of benefit to you!

Simplify. Our best meals include some grilled chicken, and a green salad. Dinner doesn't have to be a casserole that takes an hour to assemble. Keep it simple!

Make it a priority to get dinner on the table for your family tonight. A healthy meal can be easy when you know how important it is.
