So Many Theater District Restaurants New York Makes It Hard To Decide

By Eleanor Thompson

If you have been waiting all year to see a much-heralded Broadway show you'll want to make it a night to remember. Rounding out the experience with food and drink before and after is part of the fun. Part of your planning should include choosing among the many theater district restaurants New York boasts.

Your choices of places to eat and drink my differ slightly if you are attending a matinee rather than an evening performance. But early or late it's fun to gather with friends before the show to anticipate how fabulous it's going to be. And afterwards you will want food and drink over which to discuss how fabulous it was.

Among the issues you will want to consider in selecting a dining establishment is who in your party drinks what. If you have children and teetotalers you may opt for a place that does not serve alcohol at all. Some people can't get in the mood for entertainment or wind down afterwards without a full bar at their disposal. And in between there are lots of places that offer ethnic cuisine with wine and beer to match.

The most obvious place to scout for before and after-show eats is Times Square. It's probably the easiest place in the world to find and there is plenty of variety. However this is not the best place for unique cuisine.

Although there are a few unique eating establishments in Times Square most of what you will find there are 'safe' places for people who don't like to leave their culinary comfort zone. These are franchises and chains such as you would find in most American cities and many foreign countries. If there are children in your party who won't eat anything but McDonald's, Times Square is the place for you.

There are a few original dining venues mixed in among Times Square chains including an elegant pizzeria in what used to be a church. There's a unique barbecue place and several one-of-a-kind Asian establishments. Do some research in advance. Make sure the cafe or supper club or boit of your choice is open late if you plan to eat after the show.
