Enhancing Your Warm Weather Experience with an Outdoor Home Bar

By Dave Rokiki

Warmer temperatures always make us feel better as we make our migration to the great outdoors. This joyful flight out of the house can lead us to work in the garden, grill a hamburger or two and throw a pool party for family and friends.

This summer, why don't you treat yourself and your guests to an outdoor home bar to add to the frolic and let the good times roll.

The outside bar is basically a refreshment stand providing alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to become the center of any social event. Some important points to consider in one's outdoor bar are the style and type of bar that would best fit your situation.

When considering investing in an outdoor home bar it is important to think through the process. This means that questions like where will the outdoor home bar be placed, what will be the dimensions of the bar, will there be a roof attached, will the home bar be moved indoors each night, will the bar be equipped with electricity, will water be available, etc? Also, part of outdoor home bar choice should include the cabinetry that may be incorporated in the home bar to ensure that any liquor stored in the unit can be secured so as to prevent children from gaining access.

When you have the answers to these questions, you have a pretty solid idea of what type of outdoor home bar is suitable for your situation. Next step is to decide on the stylistic elements of the bar.

As with any product there are a number of styles of outdoor home bars. For example, a simple straight styled bar, a horseshoe style bar, an L shaped bar, etc. In addition, a popular outdoor home bar is known as a Tiki Bar. This style of bar is a standard bar, but is in the style of a tropical hut. Specifically, that means the roof is the form of palms and generally the front of the bar looks like wood from a wooden hut.

Also, when considering the purchase of an outdoor home bar it is important to remember the venue and activities taking place. Therefore, the glassware and other home bar accessories should be in keeping with the safety of the guests who are being entertained. Consequently, it is important that the actual glassware and other service items should be made from unbreakable plastic or other such products.

Always consider the welfare of your guests above all. This may mean that you post rules to curb excessive drinking and rowdy behavior. Alcohol has a tendency to lower even the most staid individual's inhibitions and judgment level, especially when in hot sunlight with the freedom of being outdoors. You want to maintain safety for all while still encouraging your guests to enjoy themselves.

You can word these rules so guests get the message and intent without treating them like little kids. For instance, a sign could be posted near the outdoor bar declaring "We don't serve horses, so don't indulge in outlandish horseplay" or "If you drink, don't run around the pool or swim in it." Some signs are ready made and can be purchased for the outdoor bar home bar area. Just be sure to choose signs that are appropriate for the area, the guests and possibly are written with a touch of humor.
